DISEASES >> BREAST CANCER
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women after skin cancer and, of cancers, is the second most common cause of death among women after lung cancer.
As women age, their risk of developing
breast cancer increases. Regular exercise, particularly during adolescence and young adulthood, and possibly weight control may slightly reduce the risk. Regularly drinking alcoholic beverages may increase the risk.
More than trying to modify the risk factors, it is very important to be vigilant in detecting the
breast cancer as early detection goes as far to cure the cancer.
Symptoms
- discharge from the nipple (clear or bloody)
- persistent tenderness of the breast
- pain in the nipple
- swelling or mass in the armpit (lymph nodes)
- inverted or scaly nipples
- a lump that can be felt, no matter how small
- swelling of the breast
Cancer pain can be adequately controlled with appropriate drugs. So if a woman is having pain, she should ask her doctor for treatment to relieve it. Psychologic and spiritual counseling may also help.
